Coincidences or Works of the Divine ?

"May I help you?, She asked with a welcoming smile
As I walked into a Medical Arts Building
In Hamilton, New Jersey
One lovely Midsummer Evening.

"We are new to this area
And are looking for a Primary Care Physician
With admitting privileges at RWJ hospital
Who isn't just competent
But is also compassionate and understanding"
I said.

You should meet my own doctors then,
A husband and wife team
Who are my Mom's doctors as well,"
She replied and mentioned the names of
Lukose and Laisa Vadakara from India
Where my wife and I come from too.

One thing led to another
And she ended up sharing with me
Her own life story
With all its thrills and agonies.

Anna is a dedicated Medical Social Worker
A young white American woman in her thirties
With the deepest of deep concerns for the health
Of the underprivileged amongst us.

"I am waiting to pick up my boy friend
Who is undergoing dialysis
In an Endocrinologist's office inside"
She confided in me a little later.
Anna and Eric had known each other
From their teenage years.

Just a few minutes later, Eric came out
A well dressed Afro American
About the same age as Anna.
A victim of Advanced Diabetes
Waiting in line for a Kidney transplant
Not knowing how long that would take,
Maybe a year or longer as he was told.

We headed back to Montage where we live
After that brief encounter with Anna and Eric
Me, my wife Mary and our friend Dorothea
With thoughts of nothing but the two of them.

A week later calls Anna and says
Guess what!
You brought us good luck so to speak.
On that lovely Midsummer evening.
For Eric got a call the very next day
To schedule an operation right away.

He had his surgery at RWJ last Monday
And is well on his way for a new life
With a new Kidney and a new Pancreas
Thanks to the sacrifice of an unknown donor."

Wow!
There are no coincidences in life.
All are works of the Divine
When seen in the Big Picture
I remembered saying to her as we parted
And she reminded me of the same when she called.

Tears rolled down my eyes
As I listened to the news.
"No ends and limits to our experiences
Of the Omniscient Potentiality of the Divine
If we put our faith and trust in the Same."
I said to myself.

Will our friendship with Anna and Eric long endure?
Are Lukose and Laisa destined to become our friends?
Will they accept us as their patients
Should we ever need them
Stubborn as we are in our resistance
To screening tests and prescription drugs
And our emphasis on Alternative Holistic Methodologies
As the first line of approach for prevention and healing
In tune with the Mind Body Physician Gurus of our time?

So I wondered with hopes for the best
Leaving it all to the Will of the Divine,
As I thanked Anna for the call
And her desire to meet us again with her Mom.
