Karma and Reincarnation

Theories of Karma and Reincarnation
Both but Extensions
Beyond Birth and Death
Of the nature of Nature's Truth
The Power of Action and Reaction Dynamics
And of Cause and Effect Relationships
Operational Everywhere and Everywhen
Even in Heaven if there is One.

Hinduism, Science and Other Religions

1.     Hinduism recognizes that all understanding is paradigm dependent in the final analysis. Truth is One, the learned describe It variedly, it says. As such, it is the most secular of all religions and is theistic at the same time. If other religionists can recognize this, they will be able to accept and appreciate the good and bad in all religions just as Hindus can.

2.    Hinduism offers Yoga and various types of Mediation Routines for physical and emotional health with emphasis on our spiritual well being as well. Stripped out of their spiritual emphasis, many of these are finding their way into mainstream preventive physical and rehabilitation therapies. Hinduism also offers Ayurveda and other natural herbal recipes for chronic disease management as alternatives or supplements to modern prescription drugs.

3.       Unlike non-theistic religions such as Buddhism and Taoism, Hinduism recognizes that gods, goddesses, angels, demons and some departed personalities such as departed saints and spiritual masters are real extra terrestrial beings in worlds of matter, anti matter or spirit. It also recognizes that there are conflicts amongst them just as in us. They need us as much as we need them. We can benefit by praying to them, worshipping them and making deals with them. Idols and photographic images of them help us to focus our attention on the specific attributes of their personalities.

4.   Hinduism reminds us that central to all Understanding is the Understanding of the source of all Understanding. With that recognition, it offers a Worldview and Cosmology that is much more comprehensive than the current Scientific Paradigms leaving it for innovative scientists to fill in the details. Keep going.

5.     Hinduism recognizes that Consciousness and its attributes of Self Awareness, Mutual Awareness and Environmental Awareness alongside of the Survival Instinct that evolved into the complexity of predator and prey mechanisms and associated emotional complexes on Earth could not have arisen without the potentiality for them preexisting in Space and Time free Vacuum just as matter and energy cannot come into existence without the potentiality for them preexisting in the same Space and Time free Vacuum. Science has yet to come to accept this concept. That potentiality is called Brahman symbolically. Other religionists can relate to Brahman in terms of their own God. In scientific terms, the name is irrelevant and unimportant.

6.      Hinduism recognizes that Cycling and Recycling are natural processes not only on Earth but all across all the stars and planets in the Universe. With that realization, it suggests that Creation, Sustenance and Eventual Dissolution of the Universe occur in cycles within sub cycles of Space and Time. More specifically it suggests       that each          cycle is of 4.32    billion years in duration and each sub cycle   is a multiple of 4.32 million years in duration.    Four sub    cycles make a full cycle. Today's scientists are just beginning to work out the details of this idea. For instance P. Steinhardt and N. Turok: A Cyclic Model of the Universe: Science pp. 1436-1439, 2002. Much more work needs to be done to bring this idea into mainstream science.

7.      Hinduism extends the realization of creation, sustenance and eventual decay in cycles after cycles as natural processes all across the board to the accumulated informational databases of life forms on earth from the moment of their birth till death. They are referred to as Vasanas. Roughly they can be translated as impressions or experiences. Recycling of the matrix of a lifetime of experiences from moment to moment within the context of action and reaction mechanisms among the billions of cells and their constituents within an organism is what is involved in Reincarnation, it suggests. These ideas may have to be     extended to the so called inanimate matter all the way down to subatomic particles as well to develop a much more comprehensive Worldview and Cosmology than is presently the case.

Interestingly in this context, that two eminent scientists, an American doctor Stuart Hameroff and a British physicist Sir Roger Penrose are said to have developed a quantum theory of consciousness asserting that our souls are contained inside structures called micro tubules which live within our brain cells. They argue that our experience of consciousness is the result of quantum gravity effects inside these microtubules. In a near-death experience, they suggest, the microtubules lose their quantum state but the information within them is not destroyed.

Paraphrasing what Dr. Hameroff says: "Let's say the heart stops beating and the blood stops flowing. The microtubules then lose their quantum state. The quantum information matrix within the microtubules however is not destroyed, it can't be destroyed, and it just goes to the universe at large. It can go back into the microtubules and the patient says, I had a near death experience. In the event of the patient's death, it is possible that this quantum information can exist outside the body indefinitely - as a soul. The role quantum physics plays in biological processes, such as in the navigation of birds, adds weight to the theory."

8.      Last but not the least, Hinduism recognizes that extraordinary individuals, incarnating or reincarnating arise in our midst every now and then with extraordinary psychic powers just as super heroes come about every now and then in other fields of human activity. There is no genetic or any other explanation for any of that as of now in scientific terms. Reincarnation of Information matrices in ways we do not quite understand at the present time may be involved here.

Nirguna Brahman and Saguna Brahman

God as Nirguna Brahman
Without attributes is Eternal and Static
Timeless, Spaceless, Neither Male nor Female,
Neither Yin nor Yang
A State of Sat Chit Ananda in the Eternal Void
As the Hindus would say
Nevertheless with Infinite Potentialities
For Conscious and Dynamic Manifestations
In worlds of Matter, Antimatter, Spirit,
SpaceTime and may very well be
Anti SpaceTime too.

God as Saguna Brahman evolves and dissolves
In Cycles within Cycles of SpaceTime
And may very well be Anti SpaceTime too.
Every moment being a New Universe.
Out of the Infinitude of Possibilities
Latent in the Sat Chit Ananda State
Dependent on the actions and reactions
Amongst the ensembles of  Creation
In the Microcosm and the Macrocosm
The moment before.

May these recognitions coupled with
An extension of Schrodinger's
Probabilistic Mechanics and the Principle
Of an Observer changing the State of the System
To each and every ensemble
In the Microscopic and Macroscopic Domains
Pave the way for the Theoretical Physicists
Of our time to develop a World View
That is in tune with Science and Religion both.

Laws of Mechanics

Schrodinger's Probabilistic Mechanics
Rather than Newton's Deterministic Mechanics
Applies not merely to the Quantum Domain
But to each and every every ensemble in the Universe
Be it in the Microcosm or the Macrocosm
Amongst the Living or the Non-Living.
And so does the Principle of an Observer
Changing the State of the System.

The Macrocosm contains the Microcosm
And vice versa as in a Hologram furthermore
And the distinction between
Intelligent Life and Inanimate Matter
Merely a matter of degree
As many have shown and proposed.

May these recognitions
Coupled with the Many World Interpretations
Of Quantum Mechanics pave the way
For a Scientific World View
That also recognizes
The Static Consciousness Potentiality
Of the Eternal Void
As the Ultimate Source and Cause
Out of which evolves and dissolves
The Dynamism of Understanding
With countless Actions and Reactions
Amongst the ensembles of Creation
All across the Board
In  endless and beginning less
Cycles of SpaceTime and Anti SpaceTime too
If you will.

Satanic Temptations in the Digital Age

Satanic Temptations
The latest threats to the humankind
Devilish Acts of the Digital Age.

All in defiance of the Commandments
Of Moses the Great, Jesus the Christ
Muhammad, the last of our Prophets,
Master Gurus of the East and their Avatars
All messengers of the One God
The God of Love, Compassion, Mercy and Justice.

Cyber Insults and Violent Responses
In the name of Religion

Cyber Wars replacing Older Ways
To resolve Group Differences

Political Rivalries and Digital Ways to win
With focus on Competition and not Cooperation
In the name of Democracy
That's still in its adolescence
As a way of governing ourselves.

Identity Thefts and Corporate Fraud
In the name of Ingenuity
To Get Rich without getting caught.

Environmental Pollution and Ecological Imbalances
In the name of Progress for Prosperity.

Technological Excesses and Wasteful Ways
In the name of Freedom and Innovation.

All, Satanic Temptations
The latest threats to the humankind
Devilish Acts of the Digital Age.

All in defiance of the Commandments
Of Moses the Great, Jesus the Christ
Muhammad, the last of our Prophets,
Master Gurus of the East and their Avatars
All messengers of the One God
The God of Love, Compassion, Mercy and Justice.

Coincidences or Works of the Divine ?

"May I help you?, She asked with a welcoming smile
As I walked into a Medical Arts Building
In Hamilton, New Jersey
One lovely Midsummer Evening.

"We are new to this area
And are looking for a Primary Care Physician
With admitting privileges at RWJ hospital
Who isn't just competent
But is also compassionate and understanding"
I said.

You should meet my own doctors then,
A husband and wife team
Who are my Mom's doctors as well,"
She replied and mentioned the names of
Lukose and Laisa Vadakara from India
Where my wife and I come from too.

One thing led to another
And she ended up sharing with me
Her own life story
With all its thrills and agonies.

Anna is a dedicated Medical Social Worker
A young white American woman in her thirties
With the deepest of deep concerns for the health
Of the underprivileged amongst us.

"I am waiting to pick up my boy friend
Who is undergoing dialysis
In an Endocrinologist's office inside"
She confided in me a little later.
Anna and Eric had known each other
From their teenage years.

Just a few minutes later, Eric came out
A well dressed Afro American
About the same age as Anna.
A victim of Advanced Diabetes
Waiting in line for a Kidney transplant
Not knowing how long that would take,
Maybe a year or longer as he was told.

We headed back to Montage where we live
After that brief encounter with Anna and Eric
Me, my wife Mary and our friend Dorothea
With thoughts of nothing but the two of them.

A week later calls Anna and says
Guess what!
You brought us good luck so to speak.
On that lovely Midsummer evening.
For Eric got a call the very next day
To schedule an operation right away.

He had his surgery at RWJ last Monday
And is well on his way for a new life
With a new Kidney and a new Pancreas
Thanks to the sacrifice of an unknown donor."

Wow!
There are no coincidences in life.
All are works of the Divine
When seen in the Big Picture
I remembered saying to her as we parted
And she reminded me of the same when she called.

Tears rolled down my eyes
As I listened to the news.
"No ends and limits to our experiences
Of the Omniscient Potentiality of the Divine
If we put our faith and trust in the Same."
I said to myself.

Will our friendship with Anna and Eric long endure?
Are Lukose and Laisa destined to become our friends?
Will they accept us as their patients
Should we ever need them
Stubborn as we are in our resistance
To screening tests and prescription drugs
And our emphasis on Alternative Holistic Methodologies
As the first line of approach for prevention and healing
In tune with the Mind Body Physician Gurus of our time?

So I wondered with hopes for the best
Leaving it all to the Will of the Divine,
As I thanked Anna for the call
And her desire to meet us again with her Mom.

Unification of Physics and Biology

One of the stumbling blocks in unifying Physical Evolution with Biological Evolution is the fact that central to Biological Evolution is the Evolution of Emotions and Intelligent Behavior. Central to Emotions and Intelligent Behavior is Consciousness. Central to Consciousness is Awareness. Awareness is of three kinds. Self Awareness, Mutual Awareness amongst Species and Environmental Awareness as far down the scale as microorganisms, living cells and its constituents including DNA and RNA molecules.

Quantification and the application of Mathematics are at the root of all explanations in Physics.  Biological phenomena are also becoming amenable to quantification but not at the level of Emotions and Intelligent Behavior.

With these thoughts in mind, I venture to suggest that the Unification of Physics and Biology requires that Emotion and Intelligent Behavior are also understood as quantifiable phenomena in digital terms and Physics itself needs to be revised in tune with the ideas of Von Neumann and Stephen Wolfram in his provocative book A NEW KIND OF SCIENCE

Yonder from the Woods

Walking up and down a walking trail
In my favorite Veteran's Park
In downtown Hamilton,
I saw her playing and enjoying herself
Surrounded by a few other kids and passersby.

The moment she saw me
As I hastened to cut across the crowd
She left them all and came running after me
As if to make a new friend for affection to share.

Puzzled and embarassed
I started to run from her as fast as I could
But she wouldn't let me go
But chase and chase.

Is she your baby?, a bystander asked.
No, she is just acting as if, I said
She then started going after him instead.

Who was she?
No other than a cute little baby squirrel
From the woods yonder
Reminding me of a squirrel's devotion
To the Hindu God Ram
And her help with a pebble or two
To build a bridge across the Indian Ocean
As he and his army were about to do
To reach Srilanka from India in times remote.

Higgs Field, Brahman and God

1.   According to the Standard Model of Modern Physics, the Higgs field and the Higgs Bosons are the

ultimate sources for the masses of all other particles that make up our universe.

2.   The Standard Model and the Big Bang theory of Modern Physics do not recognize that the Eternal

Void is also the source of our emotions. Ancient seers of India on the other hand knew that Emotions

central to all life cannot arise unless the potentiality for them exists in the Eternal Primordial Void. They

called the Static Potentiality of the Ultimate Source of our Universe by the name Nirguna Brahman and

its Dynamic Realization in the Universe by the name Saguna Brahman. Nirguna in Sanskrit means

Emotions only in Potentiality and Sarguna means their evolution in Space and Time in cycles eternal.

Each cycle is said to be 4.32 billions of years of potentiality and another 4.32 billions years of its

dynamic manifestation.  More details on these concepts reveal a striking order of magnitude agreement

for the age of our universe between this Cosmology and Modern Cosmology.

3.  With these thoughts in mind,  I venture to suggest that the Higgs field might very well be the

Nirguna  Brahman of Hinduism that is vibrant with Chaitanya loosely translated as Consciousness. This

makes sense since as I said earlier in this post, emotions among life forms cannot arise without the

potentiality for them being present in the primordial field. When that field operates on the material

world that arises out of itself, the dynamism of field interactions sets in resulting in what the ancients

called Saguna Brahman.

4. These ideas are  consistent with the Abrahamic religions
as well if you think of God in terms of

Pantheistic and Panentheistic notions. That's why God is said to be not only Omnipresent and

Omnipotent but also Omniscient. For more on Pantheism and Panentheism and the subtle difference

between the two and how scholars have made the connection between them and Hindu Advaita, one

can do a Google search. It's time that Modern Scientists recognize these ideas and seek ways to modify

the World View based on the Standard Model and the Big Bang Theory without making an arbitrary

distinction between the living and the non-living and try to unify Biology, Genetics and Neuroscience

with Physics.
